Historically, wigs have been widely used from antiquity until now, in all kinds of societies, to hide baldness, as a fashion accessory, for practical reasons (easier to maintain in certain conditions) or as a disguise/costume. They were made from animal hair or human hair (the most expensive), but also from plants or silk. From the 60’s onwards, wigs made out of synthetic fibers made their appearance, opening new design possibilities and making wigs cheaper.
